2009 Update: Another model for retrofitting suburban sprawl
NRDC is one of the nation's leading environmental organizations, now with 1.2 million members.
As communications director of the Washington DC office during the Bush I and Clinton years,
Diane promoted the organization's priority programs through the national press, including the
New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, TV networks and radio. At NRDC,
Diane worked with the organization's lawyers, scientists, policy experts and innovators on issues that
remain at the top of our nation's conservation and economic agenda: from global warming and
energy efficiency to revival of our depleted oceans and stewardship of our natural heritage.
Specific campaigns included: creating and implementing strategy and messages to advance NRDC's Congressional agenda;
developing the communications platform and outreach strategy for NRDC's nuclear safety agenda at the
Moscow summit with Presidents Clinton and Yeltsin; supporting energy efficient standards and climate change solutions;
managing a sustained media strategy to improve safe drinking standards, leading to a new federal law;
promoting NRDC's pioneering green offices. Diane still works with NRDC on occasion (see
Interface Engineering
and its innovative work on
Portland's first Platinum-LEED green building) and is a lifelong advocate of this highly-effective organization.
